Los Angeles International Airport Police Officers will officially carry the U.S. flag through the Central Terminal Area to Dockweiler Beach when the "Flag Across America" cross-country fund-raising run reaches LAX and its terminus at Dockweiler Beach. Airport-wide employees are expected to line the route through the Central Terminal Area. Flag run originated in Boston.

MEDIA ADVISORY LAFD TO DISPLAY LAX’S MASS CASUALTY DECONTAMINATION UNIT
WHAT: Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion 4 will display the mass casualty decontamination unit stationed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Firefighters will permit the news media to walk through the system and learn about its capabilities. The system permits LAFD to respond effectively to events requiring decontamination of large numbers of people. Personnel can set up the unit quickly to decontaminate 750 people per hour who have been exposed to hazardous materials, chemical substances, or biological agents. The two-piece unit costs $243,000.

Statistics for operations at Van Nuys (general aviation) and Palmdale Regional Airports also were released.

MAYOR JIM HAHN CALLS FOR LAX MASTER PLAN ALTERNATIVE BASED ON SAFETY AND SECURITY

(Los Angeles, California -- October 8, 2001) Mayor Jim Hahn today requested the Board of Airport Commissioners develop an alternative to the LAX Master Plan focused on safety and security at the airport.

In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the alternative would consider the impact on the airport, prior public comments, and the testimony and written comments presented during the remaining six public hearings to be held in the coming weeks.
