(Los Angeles, CA) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), announces a new art exhibition at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) featuring works by multi-media artist Martin Durazo. Durazo was born and raised in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. The 19 abstract paintings in a series are influenced by the physical and cultural landscape of Southern California. His exhibition, titled "Points of Entry," is located in the Terminal 1 Arrivals area and will be on view for the public until spring of 2019.

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) was recognized by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for its leadership in air-quality stewardship at its 30th Annual Clean Air Awards Luncheon. The award recognizes LAWA as a "Business Leader in Air Quality," for its sustainability initiatives at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation airports. These initiatives include airport carbon accreditation, alternative fuel programs, clean vehicle requirements, and other initiatives that will help LAX reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

This week, both Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys general aviation (VNY) airports were recognized as carbon-accredited at the Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) annual conference. LAWA officials were on hand to accept certificates for the renewals, which reflect LAWA's independently verified commitment to reduce air pollutant emissions in line with publicly published reduction goals.

(Los Angeles, CA) Today, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is launching a first of its kind partnership with Cornell University’s online learning unit, eCornell, to provide key front-line staff at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) the training and tools necessary to create exceptional guest experiences. Cornell University’s Hotel School is a world leader in hospitality management, making the partnership with LAX a natural fit as the airport aims to adopt a hospitality mindset throughout the LAX journey. LAX is the first airport to partner with Cornell University for this training.

(Los Angeles, CA) Bob Hope USO celebrated its move into the historic Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Wednesday with a grand opening event that featured remarks from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who served his country as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve and was instrumental in the project to relocate the USO Center, and leadership from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the Bob Hope USO and military officials. (Los Angeles, CA) This month, Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) officials, in partnership with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) deployed a new wayfinding sign to help guests find app-based ride services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The new term, called Ride App Pickup, was developed in partnership between LAWA, AAAE, and other national airports, and is expected to gradually be deployed at airports across the U.S. in the coming months. LAX is the first airport to debut the new term and icon.

(Los Angeles, CA) Late in the evening of Tuesday, September 11, more than 300 personnel from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Los Angeles Airport Police Division, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, concessionaires, airlines, and airport partners gathered on the roof of Parking Structure 2A and at the Department Operations Center (DOC) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to commence an overnight power exercise. The planned exercise assessed the impact a complete loss of power would have on the north terminals (Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3) and the resiliency of the systems in place in the case of such a power failure. The exercise, while only on the north complex, provided a real-time test of the backup generators, fire/life/safety systems, emergency communications and recovery protocols that are in place in the case of a major power failure.

(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved an amendment to add an additional $150,000 to the contract with Grand Performances for the development and production of cultural programming at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Grand Performances collaborates with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) on the LAX Presents program, which features Los Angeles-based artists performing in the unique space of an international airport. The 2018 LAX Presents line-up includes 18 performances across nine months, including six classical performances, a DJ with dancers and a percussionist, a marionette show, and a dance troupe influenced by the India subcontinent.

Gateway Partners (LAGP) as the Recommended Developer (RD) for the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) Facility and has initiated the first agreement between the parties. The agreement with LAGP sets in motion the path towards full contract approval by BOAC and the Los Angeles City Council to design, build, finance, operate and maintain (DBFOM) the ConRAC at LAX.

LAX officials expect 1,131,405 passengers to use the airport between Friday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 4 this year. That compares to 1,105,295 for the same Friday - Tuesday period in 2017.
